Arthur Dallas' (Tom Skerritt) screen-matched Nostromo jacket from Ridley Scott's Alien. Dallas, the captain of the Nostromo, steadily removed top layers from his ensemble - beginning with his signature jacket - while he hunted the nearly-unkillable xenomorph that had boarded his space tug. Loose threading on the patches on this jacket's arms, along with distinctive creases in the fabric, screen-match to multiple shots of Dallas, as well as to a number of production stills from the film.
Dallas' signature costume, a futuristic interpretation of a commercial spacecraft officer's uniform, was designed by Academy Award®-winning costume designer John Mollo, who received a prestigious BAFTA® nomination for his work. Alien was also nominated for two Oscars® upon release, winning one for Best Visual Effects, and has since been selected for permanent preservation in the Library of Congress' National Film Registry for its historic significance to American culture.
This real-world cotton- and nylon-blend jacket is the only surviving example known to exist and possibly the only such jacket made for Dallas. This is also the first time Dallas' jacket has ever come to public auction.
Made from a modified real-world bomber-style jacket, it features nautical-style braided zipper closures, pink piping on its collar (a design detail also seen on Dallas' dress shirt), Weyland-Yutani wings and "USCSS Nostromo" patches emblazoned on the chest and right sleeve, and "Nostromo" screen-printed on the reverse. Also included on the left sleeve is a replica Nostromo patch.
The jacket is intentionally distressed by production to appear well-worn in space, as the crew would have few clothing options available for their mission. It also shows evidence of wear consistent with on-set use, handling, and age, including staining around the leather.
