Indiana Jones' (Harrison Ford) Beaufort Panto glasses from Steven Spielberg's Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. Jones, a professor of archaeology, wore his glasses while teaching students at Barnett College and when he met with Walter Donovan (Julian Glover), who hired him to continue his father's work on locating the Holy Grail.
Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade was the highest-grossing film of 1989. It won one Academy Award® out of three nominations, in addition to three BAFTA® nominations, one Golden Globe®, and four Saturn Awards®. Indiana Jones' glasses emphasize the two very different sides of his life: the rough-and-tumble leather-jacket-clad adventurer and the suit-and-glasses-wearing archeological scholar and college professor.
Beaufort Panto frames are handcrafted by the historic Algha Works eye wear manufacturers, originally as part of the United Kingdom's National Health Service (NHS) subsidised eyewear and later under the private Savile Row Eyewear brand following the deregulation of the British eyewear industry in the mid-1980s. The Beaufort Panto frames are distinguished by their timeless scholarly appearance, which made them the perfect fit for Indiana Jones' 1930s professor ensemble. While certainly most well-known for their prominent use by Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones, Savile Row's Beaufort Panto frames were also worn by Johnny Depp in the film The Ninth Gate. Other styles of frames made by Algha were famously worn by John Lennon, Ozzy Osbourne, and Daniel Radcliffe as Harry Potter.
