A full-size light-up reproduction of Uncle Martin's (Ray Walston) spaceship from Barry Sonnenfeld's Men in Black II. After returning to MIB headquarters to save Laura Vasquez (Rosario Dawson) from the Kylothian Serleena (Lara Flynn Boyle), Agent J (Will Smith) faced off against Jarra (John Alexander) in a hangar filled with alien spaceships, including a narrow vessel with an open cockpit and alien decals.
In the pilot episode of My Favorite Martin, the titular Uncle Martin crash-landed his spaceship in front of Los Angeles Sun reporter Tim O'Hara (Bill Bixby), which would have certainly caught the attention of the MIB. Martin's spaceship was a beloved vessel in the classic series, including for model-maker Steve Stockbarger, who saw the potential for an extraterrestrial-style model after seeing the way skylight windows fit together.
This 1:1-scale vintage single-rider reproduction of Martin's spaceship was built by Stockbarger and restored in part by renowned visual effects artists Steve Neill and Doug Drexler as an Easter Egg for Men in Black II. Inspired by the aerodynamic design of the futuristic Jaguar E-Type sports car unveiled in 1961, it is made primarily of wood and resin putty with gullwing doors held in place by magnets, tinted acrylic pane windows, foam cockpit lining, an exterior motor that glows blue and rotates, and electrical components housed inside a light-up retro futuristic console.
For Men in Black II, the reproduction was outfitted with decals, but it has since been repainted in its original silver-color and undergone sympathetic restoration to restore the functionality of the lights and motor rotation via two power switches (labeled "interior" and "exterior") added on the right side of the ship's interior. This lot shows a crack in the front hull consistent with handling. Dimensions: 117" x 55" x 37" (297 cm x 139.5 cm x 94 cm)
