Alfred Borden's (Christian Bale) distressed coded diary from Christopher Nolan's The Prestige. Obsessed and embittered, Robert Angier (Hugh Jackman) stopped at nothing to discover the source behind Borden's radical teleportation trick, which was successful only because Borden had a twin Angier was unaware of. Angier received Borden's diary, and he pored over its coded contents, trying to decipher the secrets held within. It wasn't until Borden revealed a keyword, "TESLA," to help decipher the diary, that Angier incorrectly assumed the meaning, traveled to meet Nikola Tesla (David Bowie), and had him build an experimental teleportation device that ended up cloning Angier every time it was used.
Several versions of the coded diary were made for production, including versions for close-ups and wideshots where it was carried. This version of the book was likely created for the purpose of being carried. The Prestige received positive reviews for performances, design, and narrative. It also received Academy Award® nominations for Best Art Direction and Best Cinematography.
This diary book is comprised of a soft cloth cover and paper, featuring two printed pages containing coded writing and diagrams, while the remaining pages are blank. Production intentionally distressed this diary to give it an aged, discolored appearance. This lot shows evidence of wear consistent with on-set use, handling, and age. Dimensions: 8" x 6.5" x 0.25" (20.5 cm x 16.5 cm x 0.75 cm)
Estimate: $10,000 - 20,000
