A production-made unused compound bow and takedown Arrows from Sylvester Stallone's Rambo. Rambo (Sylvester Stallone) wielded his signature compound bow as he attacked Major Pa Tee Tint's (Maung Maung Khin) soldiers after they forced a group of prisoners to navigate a minefield. Once the soldiers were dispatched, Rambo joined up with Lewis' (Graham McTavish) mercenary group, who witnessed the event, to rescue the missionaries.
Production originally commissioned five custom compound bows from Martin Archery for use in Rambo. Subsequently, an additional bow for potential production use was requested, and Martin assembled this sixth bow from the remaining available components, but it ultimately was not required and never went to set, which is why this one remains unmodified. Following production, the original five bows were reportedly sent to Sylvester Stallone to be autographed, but were never returned. This unused sixth bow remained within a private collection and is the only example from the production order retained.
While Rambo was a box office success in North America, the film met with censorship in numerous European countries. It was even banned in Myanmar (then Burma) for its violence and content. This led the film to become popular in bootleg formats, and the vivid portrayal of the oppression was praised amongst the Burmese people and opposition youth groups. In a 2022 interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Stallone called Rambo "the best action film [he's] ever done because it's the most truthful."
This Martin Cougar II compound bow, painted in Rambo's signature "deep black," features fiberglass limbs, metal components, and pulley wheels. Also included are five metal "Takedown" arrows with rubber fletching, and a plastic arrow quiver. Each arrow is designed to pull apart at its center for storage and transportation. Additionally, each arrow is without an arrowhead. Dimensions: 48" x 12" x 2.5" (122 cm x 30.5 cm x 6.5 cm)
Estimate: $6,000 - 12,000
