Robin Hood's (Kevin Costner) costume with screen-matched tunic from Kevin Reynolds' Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves. Robin wore his costume throughout the film, including when he escaped an Ayyubid jail, arrived in England with his companion Azeem Edin Bashir Al Bakir (Morgan Freeman) to honor his promise to Peter Dubois (Liam Halligan) to protect Lady Marian (Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio), and led his fellow outlaws in force against the corrupt and villainous Sheriff of Nottingham (Alan Rickman). Distinctive patterning and points of intentional distress on the tunic, including its outer shirt and sleeves, screen-match to multiple shots of Robin.
Prince of Thieves was among the greatest success stories of 1991, reaching No. 2 at the global box office and earning Academy Award®, Grammy®, and BAFTA® nominations the following year. In addition to wearing it in the film, Robin also appeared with his signature cloak throughout the promotional campaign, including in posters and the popular teaser trailer.
This ensemble consists of:
A patchwork-studded leather tunic with leather-tied sleeve caps, hand-marked "Mr. Kevin Costner. Robin 2nt 5/B. Ben Porter" in black on the interior.
A custom-made, metal-studded linen undershirt hand-marked "Kevin Robin 6" with an Angels wardrobe tag on the interior labeled "Robin"; a second tag hand-labeled "Bin"; a leather tie closure; and corduroy sleeves tied to the body of the shirt with leather detailing and fabric panels.
A pair of pants hand-marked "36" with a "30" tag on the interior.
The shoulder caps on the vest may have been changed during production, as they don’t match some of the shots where the vest itself does. Production intentionally distressed this costume to give it an aged and well-worn appearance. The pants, as well as the shirt's leather cords, were added to complete the costume. The ensemble shows evidence of wear consistent with on-set use, handling, and age.
Estimate: $10,000 - 20,000
