The first physical reference model of the USS Enterprise from the production of J.J. Abrams' Star Trek. While Industrial Light & Magic (ILM) used cutting-edge CGI to bring the film's reimagined Enterprise to life on-screen, physical models were created to be used as a reference. This model was the first physical model of the new Enterprise, created during the visual effects process in 2009, and can be seen in behind-the-scenes photographs with director J.J. Abrams.
This first model, created by the production, was numbered "00" and was used to create a second model numbered "01" that integrated lighting effects. During the promotion of the film, the digital files created by the production and used to create these original physical models were given by ILM to Quantum Mechanix (QMx), who used them to make 24 blank Enterprise models of their own that were distributed to 24 distinct pop artists, actors, and directors to custom-paint in their own unique ways as part of the Enterprise Project, with models later displayed in cinema lobbies across Los Angeles. After creating plaques for the artist models, QMx - despite not creating this original production model themselves - created an additional plaque for this, the original production reference model that started it all, number "00."
This lot consists of a gray resin Enterprise model - complete with saucer, hull, navigational deflector dish, and warp nacelles - mounted to a black display stand with a metal plaque reading "U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701 Production Model No. 00" with the Star Trek, Spy Glass Entertainment, Bad Robot, Paramount, and QMx logos and copyright information. The lot shows evidence of minor wear consistent with handling and age. Dimensions: 35" x 16" x 14" (89 cm x 40.75 cm x 35.75 cm)
Estimate: $4,000 - 8,000
