Superman's (Brandon Routh) complete costume from Bryan Singer's Superman Returns. Superman wore his costume throughout the film as he battled his old nemesis, Lex Luthor (Kevin Spacey), and worked to stop Luthor's evil plan of using Kryptonite to create a new landmass in the Atlantic Ocean. The film was the first in the Superman franchise for 19 years and followed the events of Superman II (1980), with Superman/Clark Kent returning to Earth after a five-year absence, having searched for other survivors of Krypton's destruction.
Louise Mingenbach designed this new and updated Superman costume, which retained the original's iconic look while toning down the colors. Mingenbach had a close working relationship with director Bryan Singer, having collaborated with him on The Usual Suspects, Apt Pupil, and the first two X-Men films. Her other credits include Hancock, The Hangover, Jumanji: The Next Level, and Snake Eyes.
The costume consists of a blue texturized one-piece milliskin jumpsuit, red texturized stretch briefs, and a flexible gold-tone polyurethane belt with an "S" icon.
The jumpsuit features the legendary "S" centered on the chest, with a heavy, rubberized flying cape affixed via hook-and-loop panels. The jumpsuit is hand-labeled "Brandon Jerkin #151." along the interior zipper. The briefs are hand-labeled "Brandon #121, Jerk." and the interior of the chest "S" insignia is hand-labeled "#151."
The costume is completed by a pair of custom-made red leather boots with cast-rubber soles featuring "S" icons on the heels. The costume shows signs of age and use, most notably on the cape, which has developed a slightly sticky sheen, and there is minor staining on the jumpsuit.
The costume is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from Warner Bros. Studios and a collection of production tags.
Estimate: $80,000 - 160,000
