Jim Levenstein's (Jason Biggs) pair of screen-matched postcards from Nadia (Shannon Elizabeth) from J. B. Rogers' American Pie 2. While vacationing with his best friends at a house on Lake Michigan over summer break, Jim received amorous postcards from Nadia, the exchange student with whom he had a highly sexual but ultimately unsuccessful rendezvous live on the internet in the first film.
Distinctive print marks in the text and around the corners of the back of the Philadelphia postcard in this lot screen-match to a close-up shot of Jim reading it. Additionally, a unique point of discoloration on the Chicago postcard in this lot screen-match to a close-up in the sequence in which Jim accidentally super-glued himself to, um, himself while attempting to masturbate to his "Pussy Palace" VHS.
The launch of the American Pie franchise helped lead a new wave of teen sex comedies in global cinema of the early 2000s. Following the breakout success of the first film, American Pie 2 became an even bigger hit, earning more than $287 million in global box office receipts to become the highest-grossing installment in the series. Nadia's postcards served as both Easter Eggs to one of the first film's most acclaimed slapstick sequences, as well as obstacles to Jim and Michelle Flaherty's (Alyson Hannigan) burgeoning relationship, as Jim wrestled between his libidinous attraction to Nadia and his deeper, more heartfelt interest in Michelle.
These color-printed postcards originate from a crew member. Designed by production to appear handwritten by Nadia, one postcard reads "You Have a Friend in Philly" on front with the inscription beginning "Dear Jim, See you soon! Love, Nadia" on the reverse, while the second reads "Greetings from Chicago" on front with an inscription beginning "Dear Jim, Chicago is beautiful..." and ending "I'm counting the days. Love Nadia" on the reverse. Both are stamped "US Postal Service" and applied with 33 cent stamps, with the Chicago card's stamp dated "1999." The pair shows evidence of minor staining and corner wear consistent with on-set use and age. Dimensions: (each) 4" x 6" (10.25 cm x 15.25 cm)
Estimate: $1,500 - 3,000
