An oversized Harvester mothership model miniature from Roland Emmerich's Independence Day. A Harvester mothership settled in the orbit of Earth's Moon before deploying dozens of City Destroyers to devastate humanity by attacking major cities, beginning the Harvester invasion of Earth and the War of 1996, which was ended when Steven Hiller (Will Smith) and David Levinson (Jeff Goldblum) infiltrated the mothership, disabled their communications and defense systems, and destroyed the mothership with a nuclear missile.
Independence Day was the highest-grossing film of 1996 and the second-highest-grossing film of all time at the time of its release. The film utilized over 3,000 special effects shots, a record at the time, with many of those shots being accomplished through the use of highly-detailed model miniatures. Independence Day ultimately won the Academy Award® for Best Visual Effects.
This fiberglass, wood, and aluminum mothership model miniature features matching circles embedded throughout the bottom side to represent the docked City Destroyers. The lot shows evidence of intentional production distressing together with wear consistent with on-set use, handling, and age; including paint loss, cracks, and parts of the finish and edges broken off. Dimensions: 150" x 124" x 36" (381 cm x 315 cm x 91.5 cm)
