Hugo "Hurley" Reyes' (Jorge Garcia) set of three Mega Lotto Jackpot tickets with Oceanic Airlines playing cards from Jeffrey Lieber, J.J. Abrams, and Damon Lindelof's Lost. In the Season 1 Episode "Numbers," Hurley purchased a winning ticket for the $114 million Mega Lotto Jackpot, only to discover that the numbers it contained may have been harbingers of bad luck both in his life and on The Island. After having boarded the Oceanic Airlines Flight 815, Hurley and the other survivors found themselves on an uninhabited tropical island, having survived the crash.
The sequence of numbers on Hurley's ticket - 4, 8, 15, 16, 23, and "Mega Number" 42 - recurred multiple times in the series, and became known thereafter as "The Numbers" onscreen and in fan culture surrounding the show. The sequence proved so popular that it was used hundreds of times immediately after "Numbers" aired in various real-world lotteries, including on several winning tickets.
Custom-made by production but differing slightly in design from the ticket ultimately seen in the series' final cut, this "Mega Lotto Jackpot" is printed with "The Numbers" inside of a center box, and is accompanied by a deck of Oceanic Airlines playing cards. One card has blue tape adhered to the back. This lot shows evidence of wear consistent with on-set use, handling, and age. Dimensions: (largest) 3.75" x 4.5" x 0.5" (9.5 cm x 11.5 cm x 1.25 cm)
Estimate: $1,500 - 3,000
