The original master pattern for the E-5 blaster with a cast E-5 blaster from the production of George Lucas’ Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones. Battle Droids wielded E-5 blasters throughout the Battle of Geonosis, with Padmé Amidala (Natalie Portman) famously picking one up from the battlefield to join the fight alongside the Jedi.
The grey-primed blaster is the original master pattern for the E-5 blaster: the definitive template from which silicone molds were produced to manufacture the various hero, stunt, and rehearsal versions used throughout the film. These were cast in a range of urethane materials, including lightweight rigid self-skinning foam, lightweight soft self-skinning foam, flexible rubber, and rigid hard resin. The accompanying E-5 is one of these rigid hard resin examples, painted to resemble metal. The master pattern itself is constructed from model board, timber, steel, aluminum, and plastic.
Master patterns are among the rarest surviving artifacts from the prop-making process. This is a rare opportunity to acquire the original pattern for one of the Star Wars saga's most recognizable weapons—the very template used to produce the E-5 blasters seen throughout Attack of the Clones, including those wielded by Natalie Portman. The weapon is also featured on page 33 of Star Wars: Attack of the Clones – The Visual Dictionary.
The master pattern exhibits minor chipping consistent with its age and production use. The cast blaster displays a missing chunk from the rear left corner of the grip, along with minor paint wear throughout. Dimensions (one blaster): 19.25” x 7.75” x 5.25” (49 cm x 20 cm x 13.5 cm)
Estimate: $4,000 - 8,000
